Fullerton, CA — Republican Assembly candidate Young Kim was the top vote-getter in the 65th Assembly District yesterday, beating Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk Silva by nearly 10 percentage points (54.7 to 45.3). The 65th district will be a major battleground in November.
“I am very grateful to the voters of the 65th district, who gave us such a great victory last night,” said Kim. “I want to thank all of my staff and volunteers and especially my wonderful husband and family for working so hard to make this first step a huge success. Our work has just begun, now we are on to November.”
Young Kim is a local small business-owner, and long time community leader in Orange County. She has served as a key advisor to U.S. Congressman Ed Royce for 20 years.
The 65th Assembly district is expected to be a top target for both parties in 2014. It includes all or parts of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, La Palma, Fullerton and Stanton.
The district was represented by Republicans until 2012, when Quirk-Silva defeated Assemblyman Chris Norby.
