Fullerton, CA — Republican Assembly candidate Young Kim (R-65) today praised the Fullerton City Council for unanimously passing a resolution this week affirming support for Proposition 13.

“I am very pleased that the Fullerton City Council unanimously approved the resolution affirming support for Proposition 13,” said Kim. “Proposition 13 is one of the most important measures ever adopted by the state’s voters and I pledge to defend it against all attempts to water it down.”

Kim’s opponent, current Assembly member Sharon Quirk-Silva, does not agree that Proposition 13 should be protected. Last year she voted for ACA 8, a measure labeled “the most egregious attack on Prop. 13 ever to come out of the Legislature,” by the President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

Quirk-Silva’s vote was to abolish the current requirement that “special taxes” be approved by a two-thirds vote, lowering the Prop. 13 threshold to 55%.

“Quirk-Silva’s attack on Proposition 13 demonstrates her disregard for California’s already over-taxed families and small businesses,” said Kim campaign consultant Andre Levesque. “It’s a good thing that the city council in Fullerton disagrees.”
